“The story of a piece of art …
The idea to create a work is a rather automated process: as I have to travel by car a lot every day, I often do encounter traffic jams. During these moments, I automatically think about colors, travel impressions, memories, works of other artists that I have seen, … and very often during those moments ideas for new art works come through my mind. Thus the idea for new works is born as a manner of speaking during moments of thinking, wondering, waiting …
Afterwards I start with the creation of a general structure and I do choose my starting material which is very often pastel. Afterwards the different layers of a work are created and the 'square' in all its formats is often basis of my works. I also tend to return towards earlier work such as e.g. a piece of silk that I painted some years before. At that moment, it didn’t have any specific function and I just kept it.
Sometimes I give a title to my works but as I do not want to force people in their fantasy when looking at a work I decided to limit titling; the content of a work thus depends on the mood of the one who watches."
